Championship Week Recap
It all came down to this. With the last drip of Week 17 bleeding onto the page, we crowned a new king in the SFFL as Brandon Horne’s King in the North toppled Kyler Floyd’s Sunday Cook Out to hoist the coveted championship trophy and snag that sweet $600 payday! Season-long rivalries, hilarious mistakes, and bonehead roster moves culminated in this epic showdown, and folks, the tension was as thick as the cheese on a meat lovers’ pizza!
In the Championship Game, King in the North marched to a glorious 135.74 victory over Sunday Cook Out’s 121.38. Brandon’s squad was nothing short of heroic, driven by a robust performance from his star players who evidently remembered that this wasn’t just another week in the regular season – this was a goddamned championship! Kyler, bless your heart, but despite taking the heart of many a fantasy owner along the way, this week, you needed a miracle as you gasped for breath playing against Brandon’s monster lineup. Seriously, Sunday Cook Out put up a fight, but it turned out to be a post-game snack rather than a feast!
As for the 3rd Place Game, Da Bears Watch led by the ever-enthusiastic Ryne Callahan clobbered Cameron Fitts’ Game Of Throws, winning 113.04 to 95.24. It was like watching a cat play with a mouse—a rather disgruntled mouse, if we’re being specific. With this victory, Ryne snatched a cool $200, easing the pain of missing out on that elusive title while also surviving the potential embarrassment of finishing fourth. On the other hand, Cameron is left cursing his luck and probably still reeling from the beating, while Ryne can officially say, “I’m at least better than you!” Talk about the ultimate kid brother move right there!
Meanwhile, in the consolation fights that hardly anyone cares about (except maybe Austin Young and Simon Clifford who fought valiantly but meekly), Team Young bested Team Slime 119.14 to 100.40, and The Dark Knight thoroughly decimated Mean Machine with a hefty 165.64 to 125.30 score, securing bragging rights well into next season. Poor Simon doesn’t know if his team is more of a dumpster fire or a slow-moving train wreck. One thing’s for sure: no last-place punishment, but damn if you aren’t inching closer every year!
Moving into the Standings and Stakes section, the results left us with a renewed championship narrative. With King in the North taking the crown, Brandon Horne has finally cast aside the demons of never winning a title. Their road to glory wasn’t without its bumps, but they toppled all challengers in a postseason run that’ll be discussed over beers for years to come. Ryne managed to swerve past the dreaded fourth-place hell, whereas Cameron—poor Cameron—continues his quest to master the art of losing when it matters most. As for Mike Griffin? Ah well, another year of skating by without a punishment, but it won’t last forever, so keep that warning in your back pocket, buddy!
As we look forward to next season, all we can hope for is that the owners keep their rosters intact, avoid injuries, and think twice before betting their dignity in public (I’m looking at you, Brandon, with the milk mile still fresh in our minds).
